At this year’s Winter TNNA trade show I volunteered at the fashion show check in booth where I had the distinct pleasure of seeing the Event Horizon shawl up close.  Later the same night I saw this spectacular piece on the runway.  The next day I met the shawl’s designer, Donna Druchunas and her writing partner Ave Colemen, as they were spreading the word about their new book. Stories In Stitches No. 2, second in a four part series, features essays and patterns from Druchunas, Coleman  and other contributors like J.C. Briar and Ann Weaver. In addition, there is a wonderful interview with Meg Swansen.

My favorite piece in the book is the first essay entitled, “Full Circle,” in which Druchunas compares the cycle of a woman’s life to the act of knitting a circular shawl. The materials list includes, “1 cup of coffee or tea… 1 comfortable chair… 15 minutes, 1/2 hour, or 1 afternoon of free time every week…” Of course, the stunning Event Horizon shawl pattern is worth the price of the entire book and would be the perfect project for reflecting on a life well knit.

The book is available for purchase at storiesinstiches.net, and one lucky person will win an autographed copy of the book right here on my blog. Click HERE to enter the contest.
